Book of the Month Books

2022 Reading List

It's finally here, my 2022 reading list! With last year being my first year of pattern writing and spending more time at the computer, I wasn't sure if I would reach my goal of 100 books for the year. I was able to cruise through quite a few books in November and early December, and finished the year with having read 104 books! 🥳 Keep reading below for my favorites as well as a full list with links to Goodreads for descriptions of each book.

Top Three

3rd Place: How to Make Friends with the Dark, by Kathleen Glasgow

How to Make Friends with the Dark

What I loved: This book made me cry, which doesn't always come easily to me. It's a heartbreaking and beautiful story about navigating grief.

Favorite quote: “You are carrying so many heavy feelings. There just isn’t enough room for them all.” ― Kathleen Glasgow, How to Make Friends with the Dark

2nd Place: An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, by Hank Green

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing

What I loved: I wasn't really sure what this book was about when I started it. Sometimes I put books on my library holds list and months later they arrive and I just dive right in without a synopsis. This book was unexpectedly enjoyable and as soon as I finished I wanted to pick it up and read it all over again.

Favorite Quote: “I had a very happy childhood; I just wasn’t a very happy child.” ― Hank Green, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing

1st Place: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, by Gabrielle Zevin

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow

What I loved: The characters, the creative aspect of game development, and the relationships as each character develops and learns how to process love, grief, and healing.

Favorite Quote: “What is a game?" Marx said. "It's tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. It's the possibility of infinite rebirth, infinite redemption. The idea that if you keep playing, you could win. No loss is permanent, because nothing is permanent, ever.” ― Gabrielle Zevin, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow

Favorites of 2022

Books I would read again or that have stuck with me long after finishing them: One True Loves, People We Meet on Vacation, The Opposite of Butterfly Hunting, Just Haven’t Met You Yet, In A Handful of Dust, The Future of Another Timeline, As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow, The Wilderwomen

Honorable Mentions

Books that I really enjoyed that deserve a shout out: The Plot, The Flatshare, Other Birds, Finna, Defekt, Kiss Her Once for Me, Every Summer After, Sign Here

Series

Series are my favorite to get into when I’m working on a big project. I’ll listen to them as I’m sewing and they make me eager to continue with the next book and continue with my project. In 2022 I read the Mortal Instruments series and highly recommend them for anyone who’s into fantasy/supernatural books. I also revisited a couple of my comfort reads in 2022: Twilight and Harry Potter.

Book of the Month

Over the summer I discovered Book of the Month! Each month you get to pick from 5-6 books for upcoming or new releases. It’s been a great way to discover new authors and books, and it's been fun to read physical books again. I typically get most of my books through Libby for my Kindle, or listen to audiobooks. Check out Book of the Month here and you'll get your first month for just $5!
